  Ray V. Pottorf

Superintendent 1976-1984

School District of Lee County, Florida

A graduate of Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, Mr. Pottorf moved his family to Fort Myers in 1958 to continue his teaching career at Edgewood Elementary.  He became principal of the school and later principal of Edison Park Elementary.

Six years after his arrival, Mr. Pottorf became Assistant Superintendent of the School District.  In 1966 he left Lee County to serve as Director of Teacher Certification for the State Department, but his love for Fort Myers brought him back 2 years later and he became Deputy Superintendent of Schools for Lee County.

In 1976 Mr. Ray Pottorf became the first appointed Superintendent of the School District of Lee County.  He served in that role until his retirement in 1984.  He and his wife still reside in South Fort Myers.
